Plasma

Lightning is an example plasma
When we give energy (heat) to solid state material ie ice,it will change into liquid. When the liquid is given more energy,it will change into gases.Again, when we add more heat, the electron in the gas will decrease,(we call it as ionization process¹ ).As this happened,we call it as plasma.

Plasma can be categorized as one “state of matter²”.Under the influence of magnetic field, the plasma will form “filament” refer figure 3.Example of plasma are, star and neon sign (refer figure 4) .Do refer to point number 5 for more example of plasma.
1. “Ionization process is the PHYSICAL PROCESS that converts an atom or molecule into ion.The process can be done by removing / adding an electron of atom/molecule”. For plasma to exist, ionization is necessary. The term "plasma density"refers to the "electron density", that is, the number of free electrons per unit volume

Ion can be categorized into two sections :

a. Positively charged ion ( to give / donor ) – it is produced as the electron that attach to atom / molecule gain a certain amount of energy and capable to break the electric potential that confined it,thus breaking it and free to move.

b. Negatively charged ion ( to accept ) -when a free electron collide with an atom thus trapped inside it’s electric potential, and releasing the excessing energy.

2. Plasma has a properties quiet unlike the solid, liquid and gas.

5.Example of plasma,
a. Inside fluorescent lamps
b. Lightning
c. The Sun and other stars ( plasmas heated by nuclear fusion)
d. Ion thruster ( at rocket exhaust ), they accelerate the ions, using either electrostatic or electromagnetic force
